Taking the Plank+Beam Haven bed apart (and putting it back together)

This guide is about the exact frame we are selling — the Plank+Beam Haven Bed, Queen — so if you buy it, this is also your assembly guide in reverse. Ours is already disassembled and ready to collect.

What the frame consists of

Assembled, the bed is 84.25 in long × 63.25 in wide × 46.25 in high and weighs about 100 lb in total; the underbed clearance is 11.5 in. It is rated for 800 lb.

Taking it apart

  1. Take the mattress off.
  2. Lift the slats out — they sit across the rails and come away as one set.
  3. Unbolt the metal center bar and its three support legs.
  4. Unbolt the side rails from the headboard and footboard.
  5. Put every bolt and fitting in one bag and tape the bag to a side rail. This one step is the difference between an easy rebuild and a frustrating one.

Moving it

No single piece is heavy on its own, but the headboard and rails are long — two people make it easy. Wrap the boards in a moving blanket so the pine doesn't pick up dings. Our building has an elevator, so nothing has to go down stairs. If you don't have a suitable vehicle, buyers often book a same-day mover such as Lugg or Dolly at their own cost, and we're happy to coordinate the pickup time.

Putting it back together

Reverse the steps: rails to headboard and footboard, center bar and legs, slats across, mattress on top. Because every fitting travels in one bag with the frame, there is nothing to hunt for.

About the finish and the certification: the frame is GREENGUARD Gold Certified — what that means is explained by UL Solutions.
